Count The Blessings

Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

Perhaps many of you know Lisa McKim, one of our valued staff members at TJC. Lisa’s husband, Dan McKim, organizes a hockey team every year for the Heart & Stroke Hockey Heros event, which raises money for NB Heart and Stroke Foundation. Both Dan and their son, Scotty are involved.

In the 7 years that Dan has organized this team, called the NAPA Heart Throbs, their team alone has raised nearly $450,000; the entire event has raised over 6 million in it’s 10 year run, all of which stays in this province with NBHS. We cheer you on, Dan, as your team takes to the ice next weekend (June 17-19).

On Saturday, May 28 Partners of Hope hosted an Elvis Concert Fundraiser “All Shook Up” featuring local Elvis impersonator, Alan Smith. Our very own Melissa Watts opened the concert with some fun music from the 1970s. Alan provided lots of great music and laughter. More than $1,200 was raised for the refugee fund. Thank you for your generosity!

On Friday, May 6, members of The Journey Church Next Generation Leaders (NGL) were invited to serve at Crandall University’s annual Distinguished Alumni Award banquet. Julianna Hisey, Summer Pastoral Intern, reports that they worked hard and represented TJC and NGL well. Thank you to Crandall University for giving a donation to NGL’s Global 6K Water Walk event coming up on May 28. You can donate to this HERE #lovemytjc

As part of the LEAD (Leading Next Generations Together) campaign, it was Pastor Sarah’s dream to install bouldering walls at both the TJC Riverview Gym and TJC Allison Gym. With the help of many different church members, we now have the TJC Riverview wall complete!

This wall can be used by our Journey Kids, Journey Youth, and everyone else. We pray it will be a place of fun, connection, challenge, fitness, and encouragement. #leadingnextgenerationstogether #leadcampaign #lovemytjc

Atlantic Baptist Women of TJC Allison are supporting Pregnancy and Wellness Centre of Moncton. In addition to a carton of baby wipes, two of our ladies donated several of their handmade baby quilts (a little bird told us that Diane Miller and Carol Middleton are the quilters). They are inviting you to help by filling a giant baby bottle with your loose change. You can find this bottle in the Welcome Centre at TJC Allison during May and June. To find out more about about Pregnancy and Wellness Centre, or to donate directly to them, visit their website HERE.

On Thursday, April 21, Lexi Hicks and her team won gold in their division at the ICU World Cheerleading Championships in Orlando, Florida. Team Canada Adaptive Abilities is made up of athletes from New Brunswick and Nova Scotia with different special abilities and physical disabilities, including Lexi, daughter of Keri and Graham Hicks. “This team is truly inclusive and new friends were made.” said Keri. “The team was excited to win Gold but also to represent Canada, which was a huge privilege.” Congratulations Lexi! You and your team made us all proud.

Easter is a time to celebrate God’s amazing story of love and power. Here are a few short stories from TJC that highlight God’s continuing work in the lives of his people.

JOY Older Adults enjoyed an Easter concert on April 13 called “Behold” with Phil Williams. During the concert a love offering was taken and over $700 was given to help Canadian Baptist Ministries in their support of Ukrainian refugees. Phil even donated all of his CD sales. #showinglove

On Good Friday, our Journey Kids leaders hosted Crossway Station, a time for children and families to learn about and reflect on critical moments in Jesus’ life leading up to the cross. #teachingnextgen

And finally, there were 4 people who chose to follow Jesus in Believer’s Baptism on Easter Sunday – we celebrate with Elizabeth and Isabelle from TJC Riverview; and Lola and Ellie from TJC Allison. #Ihavedecided

Donations to Canadian Baptist Ministries (CBM) are benefiting and blessing Ukrainians who have escaped over the Romanian border. Initial efforts by local Baptist churches were to provide food and sleeping accommodations. Adrian Gardner, Director of Canadian Partnerships, met with Pastor Nixon at “House of Grace”, a refugee space set up by one of the local churches. They received their first refugee arrivals March 16. That same day, construction began on another House of Peace refugee home in commercial space donated by a local developer. Adrian says “Though the needs everywhere are just extraordinary, God’s people here are responding in generous and loving, compassionate ways.”

Adam Young of Young Studios is an artist who grew up in Moncton, NB. In addition to receiving a fine arts degree from Mount A, he completed a BEd from Crandall University.

This painting called “Hearts For Ukraine” was created to help support children living through the war in that country. So far, print sales have raised $65,000 for Voices of Children, a foundation which helps children affected by war.

Adam writes “This [experience] has shown me that kindness is contagious and extremely powerful, especially in these times.”

How can you show kindness? Both World Vision and Canadian Baptist Ministries are helping Ukrainian refugees. Consider giving.

On March 22, 2020 The Journey Church streamed it’s very first service. Like thousands of other churches, we spent the following months working through both the logistics and emotions of embracing this new way of gathering together. Two years later we have so many blessings to count.

The Team: in addition to those you see on camera, there are about 20 talented and faithful individuals who have learned how to work together to present our online services. Each week, there are at least 6 working behind the scenes – managing cameras, switchers, media and audio.

The Studio: it began as a camera and computer on the stage at TJC Allison. Over these two years this has grown to a dedicated space at TJC Brentwood, with a stage for music and multiple sets available to both stream live and record content as needed.

Live Streams: 120 live events
Subscribers: an additional 344 subscribers
Views: 73,000
Hours Watched: 19,400

Seniors can feel invisible and lonely out in the world. But here at TJC, we celebrate seniors. Seniors are some of our best servers – from doing maintenance on our buildings; providing hospitality at in person services; leading Journey Groups; singing and playing along with our younger musicians on worship teams; giving consistently and generously; to providing care and prayer to others – we are thankful for the older population.

Recently our senior group, called JOY, had a REQUEST morning, where they could shout out their favourite hymns and gospel songs. Octogenarian, Ruth Williamson, was able to keep up with the requests on the piano! Pictured is John Petitpas, who requested Amazing Grace! What a great choice.

The next JOY event (55+) is an Easter Concert with Phil Williams called “Behold”. Mark your calendars for Wednesday, April 13, 7:00 PM at TJC Allison (1539 Salisbury Rd. Moncton)

The people of TJC have always been generous, even during difficult times. Recently, they donated items like warm socks, gloves, hand wipes, lip balm, snacks, tissues, gum, deodorant, comb, face mask, hand warmers and gift cards. Why? We assembled these items into 30 Blessing Bags for the Homeless. Anyone can take a bag or two in their car and distribute them as needed, even while driving.

The beauty of this project is that individuals and families can continue doing it on their own. Is this something that interests you? Start collecting items today! Be a blessing to someone who needs a little encouragement. #lovemytjc

Ardath Steeves is a long-time member of The Journey Church Riverview (formerly Riverview Baptist Church). We celebrate with her on her 95th birthday. She is surrounded by her 3 grandchildren in this picture. Happy Birthday, Ardath.

Swithin Ross has taken to the skies on his very first solo flight! Swithen is a student at Moncton Flight College. He grew up in India, where his father leads a large Christian ministry. When he knew he would be moving to Moncton, Swithin and his dad reached out to several area churches that they discovered online. We were the only church to respond. Pastor Jarvis had a ZOOM meeting with them, and the rest is history!

Congratulations, Swithin, on this milestone accomplishment. You can watch his flight HERE

New life is a sign of spring, and at TJC we are expecting lots of spring! We celebrate with 2 of our families who are expecting babies this year – Jonathan & Bekah Cormier; and Zeek & Kahlan Lundbohm. Blessings to you all.

As we focus on babies, we also celebrate Journey Kids, and all those who serve in children’s ministries every week, both online and in person. Journey Kids is a place where we are learning to love like Jesus! If you have questions about serving, contact Sarah, Pastor of Children & Families at sarah@onthejourney.ca

Gloria Steeves became part of The Journey Church family later in life. She grew up in Havelock, was married to Edward, and had adventures in California and other parts of the United States before coming back to the area.

Gloria loved serving others. For years, and as health allowed, she helped with the TJC mail outs; and she often bought pizza for the staff at Christmas. Most importantly, though, Gloria loved Jesus. She prayed consistently for members of her family.

Gloria was a blessing! She would have been thrilled that some of her family watched the TJC Digital First service in which she was remembered. #lovemytjc #counttheblessings
