The Journey Church (TJC) family is very pleased to announce Reverend Carolyn Steeves has accepted the call as our new Lead Pastor starting May 2024!
We are excited for Carolyn and her husband David to return to our Church community, where they previously attended and served for many years. Carolyn was on staff at TJC, in many roles, including being a Ministry Mobilizer in children’s ministry, Minister of Communications and Outreach, and in 2008, was called as the first Campus Pastor of the Brentwood Campus of The Journey Church.
Carolyn’s calling as a pastoral leader was affirmed upon her ordination in November 2014 at The Journey Church. She is a graduate of Acadia Divinity College (Bachelor of Theology, 2014) and is currently enrolled in their Doctor of Ministry Degree program. She has served as a denominational leader within the Canadian Baptists of Atlantic Canada, holding two terms on the CBAC Council, and currently serving on the Board of Ministerial Standards and Education. Carolyn is presently Senior Pastor of The Crossing Church, a multi-site church with sites in St. John’s & Gander, NL.
Carolyn is a high energy and gifted leader, who brings with her an enthusiasm and excitement to see Christ fully formed in all who follow him. Her passion is to create an environment of equipping by developing an intentional path so that God’s people can be serving according to their giftedness, connecting within the community, growing in their faith, and sharing the good news with those around them.
Carolyn and David have three grown children: Katie (Benson) in Langley, BC, Hannah (John) in Cornwall, PEI, and Luke in Wolfville, NS. She recently welcomed her first grandchild, Everleigh Lynn (born to Katie and Benson) in 2023.
Back in February & March of 2022, TJCs Board and Pastor Sarah Cogswell led the congregation through a “Discernment Journey,” shortly after former Lead Pastor Rev. Dave Morehouse announced his intention to retire. The Discernment Journey included teaching on the practice of discernment and opportunities for focus group and congregational reflection. In the early fall of 2022, the Board formed a Search Team, chaired by Dale Hatchard. During the approximately 18-month search, God continued to show up and guide our Search Team, while simultaneously speaking into the heart of the candidate He was calling to serve as our pastor. We met that candidate this past fall of 2023 when we received Rev. Carolyn Steeves’ resume!
We are grateful and thankful for God’s continued leading throughout the search process and for bringing Pastor Carolyn to us. God is good, and we are excited to discover what this next season for TJC will look like.
